Hamunaptra's Full SummaryAfter a long journey from London to the Sahara Desert, the O’Connell’s arrive at the Medjai camp and the following day, enter Hamunaptra’s grounds. Evelyn, Rory and Alex are partnered into a group while Rick is off searching the corridors for any signs of danger. Both women along with Alex enter Seti’s treasure chamber, and although warned by his mother to not touch anything, Alex touches a hand-winged artifact and falls through a trapdoor. He is visited by the Egyptian God, Horus, through a dream and is told that twelve would be taken from him, and on the twelfth day of the twelfth month he must choose. Horus also tells him that he will become the destroyer of the amulets in order to restore balance to the world. When he awakens, he finds himself to be an adult, and comes across a woman who introduces herself as “Hasina.” Rory soon finds that Alex has fallen through a trapdoor and calls for help. Evelyn, anxious to retrieve her son, insists that she goes into the corridors to search for him, while Ardeth and Rory stay behind. Both Ardeth and Rory try to stop Evelyn, but both fail. Rick, who is still searching the grounds, comes across the now adult Alex and immediately recognizes him to be his son. However, just as he finds him, Evelyn returned to Seti’s treasure chamber in order to seek assistance from Ardeth and Rory, but comes across Sutekh Khai Marenaser, the re-embodiment of Pharaoh Seti I and chieftain of the Djed. He insists that Evelyn leaves Hamunaptra, although states that he will assist her in finding her son, but she must leave immediately afterward. Ardeth recognizes Sutekh as a Djed and both begin to insult one another, while Sutekh charges with his sword to attack Ardeth. Evelyn witnessing the charge takes out her hidden Sais and stops the sword and enters into a duel with Sutekh, while Ardeth and Rory fight of Sutekh’s subordinates. Meanwhile, Rick, Alex, and “Hasina” are trying to get to the floor above them in order to assist the others. However, Rick notices that “Hasina” had a familiar look on her face as she began to have a vision. Incapable of recognizing it, Evelyn and Sutekh also enter the same vision with “Hasina”, and “Hasina” is revealed to be the re-embodiment of the Great Royal Wife Tuya, the birthmother of Princess Nefertiri, who was sent into hiding during the war. Later, Sutekh and Evelyn share their own vision as Nefertiri enters a duel with Seti. As Evelyn is still trapped inside the vision, Sutekh is released from it, and hears Evelyn call him father, which is what Nefertiri addressed him as in the vision. He recognizes Evelyn to be the re-embodiment of Princess Nefertiri, knocks her out, and abducts her and takes her to the Djed camp. Rory however, witnesses the abduction, and shoots Sutekh in the arm. Ardeth finishes fighting off the remaining Djed, and attempts to give chase, but fails as the reins of the horses have been tampered with and he would not be capable of fighting Sutekh alone. However, “Hasina” is left behind and Ardeth and the remaining O’Connell’s take “Hasina” as prisoner. When they return to camp, they try to think of a plan to free Evelyn. But through this it is revealed that “Hasina’s” real name is not Hasina, it is Tuya, and she is also the wife to the chieftain of the Djed. Meanwhile, Evelyn finds herself to having been taken by the Djed, and awakens from having been unconscious. Her wounds are treated by a Djed healer, and Sutekh and Evelyn begin to converse, while both are also trying to reveal one another’s secrets of their past lives. Later that week, Akeem, a Medjai warrior, attempts to send a letter to Sutekh written by Ardeth stating that they have his wife and they would be willing to do a trade for both women. A few days later, a spy from the Medjai is sent to keep watch on the Djed camp, and as Alex attempts to free Tuya, he nearly manages to succeed as the Medjai discover his attempt to release her from captivity. Tuya returns to the Djed camp on a horse thanks to Alex and returns to the Marenaser household. Sutekh, scared and not realizing who Tuya was, pulls out a knife on Tuya but later realizes that it was indeed, his wife. That evening, Evelyn decides to go out on an evening stroll around the camp, and manages to break free from her appointed guard. Evelyn however, comes across Anck-su-namun in the flesh, and challenges her to a duel. As they enter a duel, Anck-su-namun stabs Evelyn in the abdomen and kills her in the duel. Sutekh sees this and later performs a resurrection ritual on Evelyn and succeeds. Evelyn wakes up in the chieftains own household and they both begin an argument, but are interrupted by Tuya, who is enraged to find Evelyn in her household. The three of them enter their own brawl of their own, but in the process, Evelyn’s past life is revealed to Sutekh, and Evelyn also seems to recognize Tuya as Princess Nefertiri’s mother from her vision. Just before Evelyn is killed yet again, Akhom manages to separate both Sutekh and Evelyn, and escorts Evelyn to her temporary residence. Both Sutekh and Tuya then share an argument and Sutekh reveals his intentions on bringing back Nefertiri. As the preparations for the ritual are completed several hours before dawn, Sutekh summons Evelyn to be escorted to the ritual site, but Evelyn denies his request even though she is completely unaware of what is to be performed. Akhom and the rest of the Djed warriors then haul Evelyn out of the tent and carry her to the ritual site. Evelyn struggles to break free and begins to blurt out profanities. Ardeth, who is disguised as a Djed, witnesses this and attempts to scare the Djed horses. He succeeds just as the ritual begins. With the stampede of horses coming towards the ritual site and Ardeth riding on his own stallion, Sutekh begins to recite the incantations from the Book of the Dead to resurrect Nefertiri into Evelyn’s body, but as he recites the incantations, Imhotep interferes and recites his own incantation in order to return Nefertiri’s soul back to the Underworld. But with both incantations being said at the same time, this causes an unexpected result as both Evelyn and Nefertiri now share one body that now hosts both of their souls. Nefertiri, who is now freed by Ardeth as the stampede of horses arrived at the ritual site, hops onto Ardeth’s own stallion and takes Sutekh’s sword. Both Ardeth and Nefertiri ride out into the desert and try to escape. Sutekh hands the Book of the Dead to Tuya, requesting that she guarded it with her life. Sutekh then tries to give his own chase, although he falls behind intentionally, thus allowing Ardeth and Nefertiri to escape. As they ride off into the desert, Nefertiri gives her thanks, although instantly recognizes the voice of Sutekh and Tuya to be that of her mother and father. Nefertiri attempts to give Ardeth the ultimatum but is thrown off Ardeth’s horse. Ardeth tries to convince Nefertiri that he is not an enemy and reveals the purpose of the Djed. Although confused, Nefertiri does not believe Ardeth’s words, and continues to try and break free from Ardeth in order to return to the Djed camp to aid Sutekh and Tuya. Just moments before Nefertiri strikes at Ardeth’s head after injuring his leg, Nefertiri and Evelyn both enter a vision and it is revealed that the Amulet of Setesh is situated within the Ring of Kerry, Ireland. Evelyn manages to take hold of the shared body, and immediately begins to question on where she is and what happened. As Ardeth reveals what occurred, as well as the events of Hamunaptra, Evelyn attempts to return herself to the Djed, believing that they could do nothing more to her than they have already done. However, she is hauled onto Ardeth’s horse and they both return to the Medjai camp and arrive at Sahrazad’s tent in order for her to treat their wounds. Sahrazad, witnessing the wound on Evelyn’s arm, tries to prevent Evelyn from escaping, and this causes Nefertiri to take control of the body as she begins to feel threatened. She throws Sahrazad over her shoulder, threatens Ardeth, and attempts to leave the tent. Akeem manages to stop Nefertiri, and as Rory tries to stop Akeem, Ardeth tries to stop everything from happening. Sahrazad gives Nefertiri a sleeping brew, and Nefertiri falls asleep almost instantly. Akeem then takes her into the tent, and Sahrazad stitches the wound on Evelyn’s arm, later requesting that Ardeth and Rory come into the tent as well for their wounds to be treated. After gaining control over Evelyn’s body one evening, Nefertiri manages to send a letter to Sutekh revealing that they are going to the Ring of Kerry, Ireland, and leaving Egypt at the end of September in order to not only look for the Amulets of Karawan, but also Evelyn’s husband Rick, who went missing. Sutekh receives the letter, and responds back stating that support is coming. A day after that predicament, Sutekh reveals to Tuya his plans to travel to the Ring of Kerry and that they are ready to leave at any given time. Tuya attempts to convince Sutekh to let her come with him to Ireland and that she refuses to be left in Egypt. At first Sutekh refuses, but after Tuya seduces him into letting her go she is allowed. Three days after sending the letter, Evelyn travels into the Sahara, but is put into a trance as a meaningless point in Nefertiri’s life is revealed to Evelyn. Evelyn then comes face to face with Imhotep, who has also traveled into the desert. Evelyn, aware of Rick’s disappearance, engages into a polite argument with Imhotep as they discuss their previous encounters. Imhotep then reveals that he is aware of Rick’s location, and tries to bribe Evelyn into making a deal with him. He would reveal Rick’s location, although Evelyn would not tell a soul of their meeting. Evelyn accepted this, but as she was unaware of the next piece of the agreement, Imhotep manages to put Evelyn into a trance and succeeds in erasing and altering her memories. He erases any of the wrongdoings that he had done to Evelyn and her family, makes her believe that Ardeth was the one who had killed him in their first meeting, and manages to make Evelyn think that he was an ally, by replacing her father with himself when Evelyn fell through a frozen pond during adolescence and rescued her. She also does not remember the Djed, let alone her abduction or her past life, Nefertiri. He also manages to do the same erasing and altering of Nefertiri, although he makes her believe that it was the Medjai who assassinated her father and herself, while it was his priests that came to her father’s aid and also erases the ritual meeting. He later throws Evelyn onto the ground, kisses her, and rides out into the desert and back to the Djed camp. As this occurs, Evelyn’s mare, Sitre, arrives at the Medjai camp and causes anarchy after being scared off by Imhotep. The Medjai manage to calm the mare, and Ardeth and Junayd head out into the desert to find the rider of the horse. They find Evelyn on the ground unconscious, and escort her back to camp. But before they arrive, Nefertiri awakens and causes trouble for them and reveals that her memories have been tampered with. She is later assigned a guard, Akeem, when they return to the Medjai camp. The following morning, Nefertiri awakens from her slumber after having dueled Evelyn in her sleep in order to take control of the body. As she tries to leave the tent, she enters a duel with Akeem, who is now her appointed guard, as she is not allowed to leave the tent. Akeem manages to knock Nefertiri out later in the duel, and escorts her to Sahrazad’s tent. Almost a few hours before the departure to Ireland, Ardeth travels into the Sahara and to the Djed camp, but finds Tuya and Sutekh at the outskirts. Sutekh is trying to teach Tuya how to use a sword after their previous predicaments with Evelyn and the Medjai. Both Ardeth and Sutekh then enter a brawl of their own, and although things are looking bad on Ardeth’s part, Ardeth manages to defeat the Djed chieftain. He then abducts Tuya as they make an agreement of Sutekh being kept alive instead of killed. |
